Collabro Teams with Navman Wireless to Enhance Oil & Gas Personnel Tracking System

November 13, 2013 By LBSzone

Collabro Group, exclusive provider of the Vantage POB personnel logistics system for the oil and gas industry, today announced a partnership with Navman Wireless that adds the option to extend Vantage POB’s personnel movement monitoring abilities to include onshore vehicle tracking. The enhancement improves safety, accountability and emergency response for oil and gas operations by enabling 24/7 knowledge of personnel location – whether the worker is moving to or from offshore facilities, working at onshore sites such as processing plants, or in transit on land.

Data collected by Navman Wireless’ OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking platform allows Vantage POB users to instantly identify the real-time GPS location, registration number, scheduled destination, distance and time traveled, and personnel on board for each boat or motor vehicle equipped with Navman Wireless GPS tracking units and communication terminals. This information is transmitted over the air, automatically integrated into the Vantage POB application, and used to populate system reports to ensure that every employee can be accounted for at all times.

Vantage POB also tracks personnel certifications, training, trips, days spent offshore, access privileges and a variety of other information for both onshore and offshore installations through an easy-to-use web interface. The Navman Wireless functionality was added following a successful six-month trial with Apache Energy in Australia.

“This partnership provides our clients with vastly improved personnel tracking and journey management capabilities by covering a segment of the workday we haven’t addressed before: time spent en route,” said Collabro Group Joint CEO Tom Kennedy. “With this new option, Vantage POB users can monitor the location of both offshore oil workers and onshore personnel even if they are traveling between onshore facilities, driving to get supplies or any other scenario where they are on duty and using a company vehicle.”

Built from the ground up by oil and gas company representatives as part of the LOGIC (Leading Oil and Gas Industry Competitiveness) initiative created in the wake of the Piper Alpha disaster, the Vantage POB application is currently used by more than 70 major national and international oil and gas companies. It is also the industry standard in Europe, tracking 72,000 personnel across more than 470 installations with 4,500 users in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf/North Sea alone.

Vantage POB can be implemented as a standalone database for a single operator or as a shared service across operators and contractors active in a region. Collabro plans to expand the platform to other industry sectors including mining.

“In an oil and gas environment, it is imperative to know where workers are at all times for safety, compliance and emergency response. Our fleet tracking technology provides that capability whenever employees are not on offshore rigs or at onshore facilities,” said Andrew Hintz, Vertical Market Product Manager, Navman Wireless. “Vantage POB has set the standard for best practices in offshore personnel logistics for many years, and this partnership once again raises the bar by ensuring that companies have end-to-end visibility of their workforce.”
