Ekahau RTLS Improves Resident Safety in Danish Elderly Care Center

December 6, 2013 By LBSzone

Ekahau’s wearable safety badges and alerting software reduce emergency response times at Skovhuset Elderly Care Apartment Center in Hillerod, Denmark

RESTON, Va., Dec. 5, 2013  — Ekahau Inc., the high-performance leader in Real-Time Location Systems (RFID-over-Wi-Fi™) announced today the implementation of Ekahau RTLS in the Skovhuset Elderly Care Apartment Center in Hillerod, Denmark.  Skovhuset ensures the safety of its elderly residents and helps caregivers respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently by using Ekahau’s Wi-Fi-based, active RFID badges and location tracking, mapping and messaging software.

Danish IT specialists at Neuco IP selected Ekahau RTLS because it provides a flexible emergency alerting solution across multiple buildings. The expansive Skovhuset apartment complex is managed by 135 employees and houses more than 100 elderly residents and an outpatient day care program. Residents wear Ekahau’s wristband tags which, together with Ekahau VisionTM software, help caregivers locate residents on virtual, web-based floor plans. Caregivers use Motorola Wi-Fi phones, which are tracked in the Ekahau system, and can be used to trigger a panic alarm in case of emergencies. Ekahau wristband tags also include a panic button which residents can push to instantly request help from the closest caregiver and Ekahau RTLS has been integrated with the facilities’ existing alarm system, routing text alerts to caregivers’ Motorola phones.

“By keeping elderly residents safe using Ekahau’s location-based alerting solution, the existing Wi-Fi network and Motorola’s handsets, Skovhuset serves as a positive example of what’s achievable with RTLS technology,” notes Mark Norris, President and CEO of Ekahau.
