Mobile technology increases productivity for plant design

New business paper explains how AVEVA’s technology for mobile devices supports lean construction by increasing project efficiency

Cambridge, UK – 23 January 2014: AVEVA today announced its release of a new business paper ‘Plant Design for Lean Construction – at your fingertips’. This paper explains how new mobile technologies improve project access by design decision makers and enhance communication effectiveness across the project team, saving time and reducing design rework.

“Industry research tells us that between 5 and 15 per cent of a lead designer’s productive project time can be lost when they are unavailable to make pressing decisions. That is the equivalent of losing a critical-path resource for up to three working days every month – a big impact on project efficiency. With today’s technology, there is no reason why this should be the case,” said Bruce Douglas, Senior Vice-President, EDS Strategy & Marketing, AVEVA. “This new business paper describes how the new AVEVA mobile app can be used as a serious productivity tool for plant design projects.”

Industry analyst Tony Christian from Cambashi corroborates the opportunity for professional apps to deliver long-term benefits for the design industry. “For years, full exploitation of the 3D plant model has been hindered by limitations in IT infrastructures, so that AVEVA had to develop its leading-edge 3D plant design technology to overcome those limitations. Now, the combination of its leadership in efficient 3D model manipulation and today’s near-commoditised high-performance tablet technology has enabled AVEVA to deliver a breakthrough in the form of the AVEVA E3D Insight technology. The result is a huge step forward in the reach, accessibility and usability of 3D plant information – and therefore of its value to the wider project.”
