Durham school trustee wants GPS systems in buses

DURHAM — An Oshawa Catholic school trustee says the latest GPS technology should be used on local school buses to help ensure student safety.Oshawa Trustee Theresa Corless chose to investigate the concept when she saw a senior huddling in the cold while waiting for her grandchild to come off the school bus this winter.

Trustee Corless said GPS systems in school buses have become quite popular in the United States, and in other parts of Canada. Many systems include a free smartphone application with which parents and guardians can search for their child’s bus route and find out exactly where the bus is located.
