Cologne / Mülheim, 4 June 2014: Respawn’s (www.respawngathering.com) second installment from August 12 to 13 at DOCK.ONE (http://www.dockone.net) will feature an exciting array of lectures, workshops and discussions, and presents a perfect networking opportunity directly before the gamescom convention.
The basic thought behind ‘Respawn – Gathering of Game Developers’ is to create a relaxed and unconstrained forum where game developers, trade visitors and students can connect and exchange ideas. The innovative conference and networking concept was welcomed enthusiastically by more than 500 visitors at its premiere last year. Rather than confining speakers and their audiences to closed rooms, the presentations are held on lecture platforms spread out across the venue. This gives Respawn visitors the freedom to spontaneously decide which talks and panel discussions they want to follow. They can either go directly there or simply use the provided wireless headsets to switch to the audio feed of the presentation they find most interesting at any given time. The topics range from Game Design & Storytelling, Art Design & Sound, Technology & Engines, to Culture & Communications and Business & Law. On August 13, a shuttle service will be provided between ‘gamescom’ at Kölnmesse and ‘Respawn’ located only one kilometer away at DOCK.ONE.
Aruba Events would also like to announce the cooperation between ‘Respawn – Gathering of Game Developers’ and GDC Europe (www.gdceurope.com). The collaboration offers Respawn visitors special price advantages. In addition, Respawn tickets will admit their holders to the ‘GDC Expo’. Furthermore, the ‘GDC Europe and Respawn Developer Night’ will take place onAugust 12 as the first jointly hosted evening event.
“Last year, ‘Respawn – Gathering of Game Developers’ was viewed by some in the industry as an event to rival GDC Europe head-on. In fact, however, it has been our intention from the very start to create a fitting complement to the ‘gamescom’ week in Cologne. Thus, we are very happy about our official cooperation with GDC Europe this year. The coordinated organization of both events will allow us to provide an even broader palette for all and promote a more targeted and effective exchange among the trade visitors,” as Stephan Reichart, Aruba Events managing director and Respawn organizer, points out.
The list of top speakers at the 2013 Respawn convention included Jussi Immonen (Rovio Entertainment), industry legends Al Lowe and Paul Trowe, Harri Hätinen (Grand Cru), Jens Bussmann (Google), Christopher Kassulke (HandyGames), Kristina Rothe (Microsoft), Ralf Adam (Virgin Lands) and Alexander Piutti (GameGenetics).

About ‘Respawn – Gathering of Game Developers’
Open, uncomplicated, and in step with the leading edge of the games industry. That is what ‘Respawn – Gathering of Game Developers’ is all about. Aruba Events, known for the German Developers Award and the ‘Quo Vadis’ game developers’ conference, has been the organizer of Respawn since 2013. Held in the run-up to the ‘gamescom’ show, the fundamental idea is to provide an informal setting for an exchange between game developers, trade visitors and students. Presentations are not delivered in closed rooms, but held on lecture platforms spread across the entire venue. This allows Respawn visitors to spontaneously decide which talks and panel discussions they want to attend. They can either go directly there or use the provided wireless headsets to tune in to the audio feed of the presentation that interests them most at any time. At Respawn, speakers and attendees meet as equals and can enter into a direct dialogue with each other. The topics run from Game Design & Storytelling, Art Design & Sound, Technology & Engines to Culture & Communications as well as Business & Law. Respawn offers workshops, panel discussions and technology presentations, and provides an ideal networking opportunity right before gamescom opens its doors.
