All port-approved trucks in Vancouver now outfitted with GPS

June 23, 2014 By LBSzone

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Port Metro Vancouver (PMV) has announced all port-approved container trucks have now been outfitted with GPS.The transponders are used to expedite the flow of trucks into and out of the terminals. PMV says it’s the only port in North America to have installed GPS units across the entire local port fleet.

“The technology will facilitate better planning for movement of goods by truck in and out of the port and allow for superior efficiency. For drivers, it will mean greater transparency in tracking important information such as waiting times for which drivers are paid,” the port said in a statement.

About 50 trucks still had not attended for their GPS installation last week, making them ineligible to haul loads to or from the marine container terminals. The port says the suspension will become permanent if they don’t soon report for GPS installation.
