Internet of Things Global Summit Explores Policy and Commercial Opportunities

BELLEVUE, Wash. – In addition to being the world leader in LTE, the United States is one of the largest and most advanced Machine-to-Machine (M2M) markets in the world. For this reason, the United States will be the learning ground for attendees at the Internet of Things Global Summit, which is taking place in Washington, D.C. on October 27-28. Driven by advances in the automotive, utilities and oil and gas sectors, M2M connections are expected to grow to 41 million in the U.S. this year with carriers driving this growth (GSMA).
“The globalization of the cellular industry is creating the ideal environment for the growth of things connected to the internet, also known as the Internet of Everything,” stated Vicki Livingston, Head of Communications at 4G Americas. “Due to the leadership role of North America, 4G Americas endorses theInternet of Things Global Summit, to cultivate this leap into the next telecommunications evolution for the connected future which will greatly impact our society’s lifestyles and economic growth.”
4G Americas is a proud supporting partner of the Summit, which will focus on a number of key focus areas, including:
  • Smart cities
  • Smart homes
  • IoT in rural and remote areas
  • Food security and many of the world’s pressing challenges
  • Beyond cost savings and forging a path towards revenue generation
  • Managing the spectrum needs of the IoT
  • Sensing, networking and analytics
  • Data privacy and device security
  • Meeting consumer expectations
  • Standards – the bridge to innovation
The Summit comes at a time when more and more businesses are now realizing the full potential of the Internet of Things. In particular, businesses involved in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture, are now working closely with IoT and M2M providers to not only focus on cost reduction and improve efficiency, but to also identify new business opportunities through this innovation.
Tom Chinnock of Forum Global, the organizer of the summit, noted, “There was a very positive outcome of the inaugural summit in 2013. We are again pleased to bring the event to Washington, D.C. and to offer the IoT community a truly representative and high level event focusing on the critical policy dimensions and numerous commercial opportunities surrounding this rapidly developing ecosystem.”
