Discover Brooklyn Like Never Before: Fodor’s Travel Launches First Comprehensive Guidebook To NYC’s Trendiest Borough

NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2015 — Fodor’s Travel, the leading name in travel guides for almost 80 years, introduces its newest guidebook destination: Fodor’s Brooklyn. The New York City borough’s profile has experienced a meteoric rise in recent years, drawing an increasing number of visitors to explore its diverse neighborhoods. Until now, major travel publishers, including Fodor’s, covered Brooklyn as a chapter in their New York City guides. Fodor’s Brooklyn expands coverage to a full 264-page standalone guidebook, reporting on 29 neighborhoods, over 50 cuisines, and the flourishing design and culture scenes.

The pocket-sized guide captures the borough’s unique personality and is unlike any Fodor’s has published, written entirely by Brooklyn-based writers and featuring hand-drawn maps and illustrations by local artist Claudia Pearson. The guide includes interviews with more than 30 Brooklyn insiders, from Borough President Eric L. Adams, to Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark, actor and filmmaker Adrian Grenier, and New York Times Food Editor Sam Sifton.

“While all Fodor’s guidebooks have a local perspective, this one is especially close to us since Fodor’s is based in New York and Brooklyn is our backyard,” said Arabella Bowen, Vice President and Editor in Chief, Fodor’s Travel. “We wanted the guide to be infused with authentic Brooklyn flavor throughout, making it the go-to guide for locals and visitors alike.”

If it wasn’t part of New York City, Brooklyn would be the fourth largest city in the U.S. (beating out Houston), and is now a trendsetting world-recognized brand. Paris boasts a Brooklyn Bar, Amsterdam is home to a coffee shop called Bedford–Stuyvesant, and the borough has made headlines as the backdrop for HBO’s Girls, and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign headquarters.

“More of New York City’s 56 million annual visitors are crossing the bridge to experience Brooklyn and it’s time the borough has its own dedicated guidebook,” says Amanda D’Acierno, Senior Vice President and Publisher, Fodor’s Travel. “As a longtime Brooklynite, I’m excited that Fodor’s Brooklyn will help more people discover everything this dynamic borough has to offer.”

Fodor’s Brooklyn celebrates the best of Brooklyn’s classic past alongside the new generation of makers and artisans who are redefining the borough today. Follow #InsideBklyn to stay in the know and share your own borough adventures.
